"Banks aren't buildings full of gold but are currents where digital money flows."

"Money is a current-a wave of potential, hope, and energy. Money is an idea we all agree on. Money is valuable because we all believe it has value."

When you think of a bank, what comes to mind? A building? A safe? A locked box full of gold? What if we told you banks weren't any of these things? And (get ready for this)...most money isn't even kept in the bank! Banking is a system that allows money to move from one place to another, creating opportunities and growth. And banks only work well with trust, community, and a shared belief in the magic of money.

Mehrsa Baradaran (she/her) is a professor of law at the University of California, Irvine. She writes and teaches about contracts, banking law, and racial justice. She is from everywhere, but now lives in California. Rick (he/him) is the Creative Director at A Kids Co. Originally from Southern California, he moved to Portland, Oregon, in 2005 where he lives with his amazing wife, Kelly, and their 2 boys, George and Enzo. Rick honed his design and illustration skills in his spare time until getting his first big break at Dark Horse Comics. Now, his work exemplifies everything he loves to do: designing and illustrating empowering kids' stories. Jennifer (she/her) is the Head of Books at A Kids Co. She is from Tulsa, Oklahoma, with roots in Garfield, Kansas, where her family grows wheat, milo, and alfalfa and raises cattle on small family farms. Out there, work and life are a blended whole, which she carries with her today. Jennifer's father, Charles Meckfessel, was a banker who loved helping people and building a financially strong community.
