I was encouraged to write and illustrate this book by an individual who is a Native American, who continues to honor and be involved with the people of his heritage. He has successfully blended his Native culture with the modern American world. It was expressed to me that many feel the younger generation is losing touch with their beautiful Native culture.

It has truly been a gift to study this culture and create an inspirational children's book around the Native American beliefs. One strong aspect of this indigenous culture is that they believe that all living things such as people, animals, and Mother Nature are all connected to each other through a common energy that they were created from.

I have approached this book more as an illustrator than a writer. As the saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words." It is my belief, that relating to children through the way they interpret their world can inspire them to be great thinkers at a very young age. Children learn and navigate through their lives by their feelings, intuition, and imagination. I hope to inspire anyone who reads this book to explore and embrace their heritage. Connect to their ancestry and find a way to bring it in to their current lives.

Goebel, Aliann: - It was explained to me that much of the older generations, of various indigenous cultures, feel their children and grandchildren are disconnected from the spiritual beliefs of their ancestors. I believe the way words and the illustrations come together inspires the reader (possibly a parent or grandparent), or listener (a child) to connect to the spirit of their culture, finding those marvelous aspects rooted within themselves.

I always loved being read to as a child. In my very young experience with books, I was pulled in by realistic type of illustrations and stories rather than a cartoon design.

In my previous published book, Rose Discovered a Secret, a little girl named Rose lost something very valuable to her. In her search recover her lost item, even though she didn't find it, she discovered something amazing about herself. Maybe there is a common thread of self discovery in this book too....
